Become a Volunteer

joining our Volunteer team

Lutterworth Community Transport always welcomes applications to become a registered driver with our team.

Our service is considered to be essential by many of our clients, and we contribute massively to their quality of life. However, without volunteers, we cannot operate. Our volunteers give up their time, energy and skills to benefit their community with their efforts having an immediate impact on every client they transport. There are roles for every individual regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs, disability, mental and physical health or religion. As we deal with vulnerable people a DBS check is required for us to be able to carry out a thorough risk assessment. The cost of this will be paid by Lutterworth Community Transport.

Roles available

Minibus Driver.

To drive one of our minibuses you must have held a full car driving licence for at least two years and not be currently disqualified from driving. As our drivers are volunteers and our vehicles satisfy certain criteria, they are exempt from needing a D1 classification on their licence. However, we recognise the need to ensure that all of our drivers are fit to drive and that they do so to a reasonable standard. We therefore offer all of our drivers free training to the nationally recognised MIDAS scheme.

Passenger Assistant

As an assistant you help organise the route, collect clients from their addresses and make sure that they embark safely on the minibus. At the destination you will be the main point of contact for customers and ensure that they are collected on time.

Social Car driver

Volunteers use their own car to collect clients from their home and take them where they need to go. There is also an option to use our wheelchair accessible vehicle for any of these trips rather than your own vehicle, although priority will be given to users who need the wheelchair facility. If you use your own car, your mileage expenses will be paid at the current rate of 45p per mile. You will need to inform your insurance company that you intend to use your car in this way, but there is normally no charge for this.

Office assistant

We always need help with the administration of the scheme so if you have administration skills, or want to learn some, you will be more than welcome to join our team.

Trustees

We are overseen by a board of trustees who are also volunteers. They perform a variety of roles and meet regularly to guide the strategy of the organisation. Typically a Trustee may have experience in areas such as HR, Finance, Health and Safety or Project Management, but the most important gift they can give is their time and enthusiasm.

Driving your own car

We have a continuing need for volunteer drivers. Several options are available for willing volunteers who are prepared to offer the services of themselves and their own vehicle.

There are several criteria for becoming a volunteer driver, as follows:

From your viewpoint, you can expect to get reasonable reimbursement for your costs and, for most people, there will be no cost associated with driving as a volunteer. From leaving home to returning, you will received a standard mileage rate irrespective or your vehicle, fuel consumption, or type of fuel. The rate is set by HMRC.

There is also the option of using our electric vehicle rather than your own car.

You may then be offered regular ‘runs’ or you can accept casual trips as and when they arise.

At no time are you under any obligation whatsoever to accept any particular passenger or job.

If you would life more information or would like to apply to join our team of drivers, you may telephone 01455 555571 or email admin@luttct.com
